Generate revenue from your APIs through Apigee's monetization feature
As an API provider, it's essential to have a straightforward and adaptable method for generating revenue whenever your APIs are utilized. Apigee's monetization feature allows you to incorporate a rate plan into an API product, enabling you to charge developers for API usage. Furthermore, you have the flexibility to configure the rate plan to share a portion of the API revenue with the developers.
Monetization Billing Process:
Apigee's monetization system accommodates both postpaid and prepaid billing account structures.
Postpaid Billing: In postpaid billing, your app developers do not need to make any upfront payments. Instead, they are billed after they have used your API products.
Prepaid Billing: Prepaid billing entails app developers making advance payments before accessing your API products. The upfront payment is deposited into the developer's wallet, from which the per-transaction cost is deducted based on usage. Any setup fees, per-transaction costs, and recurring fees are debited from this wallet. If the developer's wallet balance falls below the setup fee amount at the time of attempting to purchase an API product, the transaction will fail, indicating insufficient funds.
When configuring a rate plan, you have the option to set the billing currency and frequency, establish any setup and recurring fees, and define consumption-based charges. This setup allows you to collect usage data based on the rate plan and the developer's unique API key, which is used to access your APIs. This data serves multiple purposes, including analysis and the generation of monetization reports. Subsequently, the collected information can be employed to generate your billing invoices.
